Origin Story
Our origin story begins with the Hollywood hit movie, Instant Family. In 2018, as Director and Screenwriter, Sean Anders, and his adoption consultant on the movie, Allison Maxon, traveled the country hosting screenings of the movie, the seeds for our organization were planted.
As they traveled, they encountered countless individuals who shared with Allison and Sean that they rarely told people they were in foster care. Sean and Allison were struck by this, as these individuals embodied resilience and had incredible testimonies that exemplify the strength of people who have gone through the foster care system.
For too long, those of us who are, or were, in foster care have had our voices silenced, or have been labeled with harmful stereotypes, stigmas, and soundbites. In many instances, we have not been given the platform to tell our stories, our way; we have not had anyone to turn up the volume on our mics and help us to tell the truth about who we really are. And who we really are, is what is needed most to change the harmful narratives that have stained the public perception of foster care and the people who experience the system.
In 2020, our team came together to create the platform we have needed for so long. While we have all walked different journey’s, we are tied together with foster care as our common thread.
Through storytelling, and sharing our own encounters moving from trauma to triumph, we hope to inspire young people that they are not defined by their circumstances.
